Actor Christy Carlson Romano said on Tuesday in an emotional video she posted to social media that she tested positive in a cancer screening.
Romano, 41, best known for her Disney Channel roles as Ren Stevens on "Even Stevens" and as the voice of the title character in the animated series "Kim Possible," said she and her husband got cancer screenings recently due to her family history.
The mother of two said that both of her parents had cancer, and that her father died from the disease. She added that her grandmother died of lung cancer.
"My husband's came back completely negative," she said before taking a long pause. "Mine did not back negative. So basically what that means is that I may have stagable cancer."
Romano, who helms popular podcast "Vulnerable," said her next steps are to get a PET scan, but that she is fighting her insurance company to get that covered.
"Cancer is everywhere, which is why I got this test," she said. "I kind of was in disbelief about it, because I was filming, and I was so happy to be back on set, and I didn't want to really think about it much."
"It's time to have a strong sense of faith and know that it's in God's hands, most of it. I'm sure people think I'm overreacting, but I'm not, because cancer is pretty serious, and I have two little girls."
Romano added that she's taking life "one day at a time." She also revealed that she's publishing a memoir soon.
For every 100,000 people living in the United States, 442 of them were diagnosed with cancer in 2022, according to the most recent data available by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.
