Two time gold medalist Jordan Stolz says even he still gets nervous before races

American speedskater Jordan Stolz has made Olympic history at the Milan Cortina Games, setting Olympic records in both the men's 1000 and 500-meter finals and taking home gold medals in both events. He's 2-for-2 at these games, and even then, the speedskating star says the Olympic stage is nervewracking.

"Before the 1000, I was feeling nervous, just because it was the first one. It’s the Olympics, right? And it’s super important," Stolz said to reporters after today's competition.

Stolz said watching the men's 5000-meter competition, which he did not participate in, made him nervous for his own races. "Just watching that made me a little bit nervous, because it’s kind of like you’ve waited four years to be able to get here. Now you only have one chance to win."

There's more competition ahead for Stolz, who will race in the 1500-meter final and the mass start speedskating event next week. But after racing what the speedskater is calling his best 500-meter race ever, he's hopeful for strong runs during his next two events.

"I think right now my speed and my endurance feels really good. So I think if I skate a clean race, it should be a good result," Stolz said.

Stolz said he plans on relaxing ahead of his next events. What does relaxing look like for an Olympic speedskater? "Just try not to think about skating," Stolz said.

U.S. to play Denmark in hockey amid Trump's push for Greenland

The U.S. matchup with Denmark in men's hockey today is taking place amid Trump’s monthslong effort to absorb Greenland, a Danish territory, into the U.S. against the wishes of the Danish government, sparking tensions between the U.S. and its NATO allies.

Some Danish national team players who spoke with NBC News in Milan said they were focused on the matters at hand — winning a game against the Americans, who are heavily favored.

“It has nothing to do with playing a hockey game,” said Nikolaj Ehlers, a forward who plays for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and is arguably the top player on the Danish national team. “But obviously, I’m from Denmark. I’m proud to play for Denmark.”

Denmark is coming off its strongest international performance in the nation’s history, falling short in the bronze medal game at last year’s International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championship. In that tournament, Denmark pulled off a surprise upset of Canada.

“It’s not the first time I played against the USA,” Ehlers said. “I want to go out there and play for my country and like I always do, nothing changes in that regard.”

Asked if players privately have discussed the ongoing Greenland fracas with the U.S., Ehlers said: “The whole world talks about it.”

“So that’s nothing crazy,” he added.

Oliver Bjorkstrand, a Danish forward who plays for the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, said Denmark is preparing for what it knows will be “a very difficult game.”

As for political tensions between Denmark and the U.S., Bjorkstrand said: “We’re here to play hockey and sometimes politics has just got to stay out of it.”

Pinheiro Braathen barely holds back tears after winning super-G gold

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen's gold medal in super-G is official — he is the first athlete ever to win a medal at the Winter Olympics for a South American country, and he couldn't hold back his emotions after topping the podium.

"I've done so much, I've sacrificed so much," an emotional Pinheiro Braathen told NBC Sports’ Heather Cox after his win.

“I’ve sacrificed so much," he added, "I dared to pave my own way in order to reach my dreams... This is my dream, it cost everything, but we finished off on top.”

The Swedish team accused Canada of cheating in what was ultimately an 8-6 win for the Canadians. Specifically, Sweden reported to referees that Canada’s Marc Kennedy was illegally touching his stone, giving it a secondary push with his finger after releasing the handle on top.

As the match continued, the sides grew irritated with each other, resulting in Kennedy hurling expletives at the Swedish team in defense of himself and both sides argued across the ice.

Kennedy, meanwhile, took offense to the accusation.

“I don’t like being accused of cheating after 25 years on tour and four Olympic Games,” Kennedy said.

Asked why their exchange occurred late in the match Kennedy added: “He’s still accusing us of cheating, and I didn’t like it. So I told him where to stick it, because we’re the wrong team to do that to. So I don’t care. He might have been upset that he was losing.”

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen set for gold for first ever South American Winter Olympic medal

It's set to be a historic first Winter Olympic medal for South America!

Brazil's Lucas Pinheiro Braathen is set to win gold in the men's super-G.

It was difficult conditions on the Stelvio in Cortina, as heavy snowfall meant soft, wet snow was landing on the course, making it slippery in areas, as well as making visibility difficult. Pinheiro Braathen clung on for dear life as his skis slipped through a turn in his second run, almost sending him tumbling. But he held on and made it down the course to likely win Olympic gold, largely thanks to blowing the rest of the field away in his first run earlier in the day.

"I'm so proud of you," Pinheiro Braathen's mother said as the pair embraced. Pinheiro Braathen switched allegiance to his mother's nation of birth in 2024 after splitting from Norway's ski program.

Switzerland's Marco Odermatt, who has 53 wins on the World Cup circuit and was the defending Olympic champion in this discipline, is in second place, which would be his third medal of these Games. Loic Meillard, also of Switzerland, looks set for bronze.

There are still further skiers to come down the course, but all of them finished outside the top 30 in this morning's first run, making it next-to-impossible for them to contend for medals.

It means Norway takes another medal as they reclaim the lead at the top of the medal table with their 19th medal of these Games. Team USA, led by Jessie Diggins, finished fifth.

Gold medal favorites Sweden crash twice in women's cross-country relay

We're at the halfway stage of the women's 4x7.5km cross-country relay, and the heavy gold medal favorites Sweden are having an absolute disaster.

Ebba Andersson, taking on the second leg of the race, crashed twice during her run in powdery snow conditions. Having had a seven-second lead in the race after the first leg, Andersson slips out on a turn, allowing arch-rivals Norway through. Her second crash is worse — getting her ski trapped under the snow as it comes off, forcing her to ski on one ski. Their technician even falls over after rescuing Andersson with a replacement ski. Andersson has just handed over, well over a minute behind the leaders, giving her teammates quite a challenge to claim a medal and continue Sweden's run of medalling in each of the women's cross-country events.

Double medals for Team USA as Kauf wins silver, Lemley takes bronze in women's dual moguls

For the second time in these Games, Team USA's Jaelin Kauf and Liz Lemley will be on the Olympic podium, with Kauf winning silver and Lemley bronze in the women's dual moguls.

This is Kauf's third Olympic silver medal. The Wyoming native went in the gold medal run against Australia's Jakara Anthony, but an error from her means it's Anthony who takes gold.

Liz Lemley was clutching her left shoulder after her crash in the semifinals. Her bronze medal final is incredibly close, but Lemley goes big on the jumps, and that's enough to edge out Perrine Laffont for bronze. Lemley wins 18-17. Lemley won gold earlier this week in the standard moguls event, so this has been quite a week for the 20-year-old on her Olympic debut.

Dual moguls to make Olympic debut with Team USA strong contenders

It's time for an event making its Olympic debut in these Games — the dual moguls. It is the women who are competing this morning, and Team USA are strong medal contenders.

Dual moguls sees two skiers racing side-by-side down the course featuring two jumps and fields of bumps, known as moguls. While they are racing, being first down the course does not necessarily mean an athlete wins. A panel of seven judges evaluate skiers based on their technique in turning through the moguls, their aerial tricks and their speed down the course. Each judge focuses on one of those elements and has five points to award. The winner of each head-to-head advances through the bracket.

Team USA took both gold and silver in the standard moguls event earlier in the Games with Liz Lemley claiming the top spot on the podium in her Olympic debut and Jaelin Kauf taking silver. It is Kauf who comes into this event as the favorite as the defending world champion in this discipline. Americans Olivia Giaccio and Tess Johnson are also competing.

The event begins at the Livigno Snow Park 4:30 a.m. ET.
