More than 200 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since the war began in 2023, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Israeli troops withdrew from parts of Gaza after the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, while thousands of displaced Palestinians have returned to what is left of their homes.
By pressing on with the second phase of the ceasefire, Washington and its mediator partners will need to tackle the vexing challenges of disarming Hamas, further Israeli withdrawal tied to the disarmament and deploying an international peacekeeping force.
It will see the beginning of the "demilitarization and reconstruction of Gaza, primarily the disarmament of all unauthorized personnel," Trump's envoy said.
The Israeli leader has vowed to spend 350 billion shekels ($110 billion) on developing an independent arms industry to reduce dependency on other countries.
