Donald Trump has won the Texas contest, NBC News projects, and secured the state’s 40 Electoral College votes. The conservative state voted to back Trump in the last two elections. In 2020, Trump won Texas with 52% of the vote, while Joe Biden received 47%. In 2016, Trump won Texas with 53% of the vote, while Hillary Clinton received 43%. Texas has remained a safely red state since the 1980 presidential election, though there are some signs of a political shift due to changing demographics as well as other factors.
